The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has received the Senator representing Enugu West Senatorial District, Osita Ngwu, on an inspection visit to the 9th Mile 132/33kV Transmission Substation in Enugu State, where he pledged support to resolve challenges delaying the facility’s commissioning.
This is contained in a statement signed by the General Manager, Public Affairs, Transmission Company of Nigeria, Ndidi Mbah.
The Senator, who visited the substation on Saturday, July 11, 2026, was received by the Assistant General Manager (Transmission), Enugu Sub-Region, Engr. Madu, alongside other members of the TCN management team.
During the visit, Engr. Madu explained that although the substation was completed by the Niger Delta Power Holding Company in 2022, it has remained uncommissioned due to the non-completion of the approximately 22-kilometre New Haven–9th Mile 132kV double-circuit transmission line.
He identified Right-of-Way (RoW), constraints as the major obstacle delaying the completion of the transmission line, stressing that the project is crucial for energising the substation and improving bulk electricity supply to the 9th Mile industrial hub and neighbouring communities.
Engr. Madu also underscored the importance of providing adequate security to protect the transmission facility from vandalism pending its commissioning.
Responding, Senator Ngwu acknowledged the urgency of addressing the identified challenges and assured TCN of his commitment to supporting efforts aimed at resolving the Right-of-Way issues. He also pledged to work towards strengthening security around the facility to safeguard the critical power infrastructure.
The visit concluded with a guided tour of the substation’s control room, switchyard, and other key installations, providing the Senator with firsthand insight into the readiness of the facility for commissioning once the outstanding transmission line project is completed.
