The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), through its Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Department, in collaboration with the Nigerian Fire Service, has conducted a comprehensive fire drill at its Corporate Headquarters in Abuja to strengthen emergency preparedness and response capacity among staff.

The simulation exercise, held on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, commenced with the activation of the building’s fire alarm system, triggering a coordinated evacuation of TCN staff, personnel of the Federal Ministry of Power, and visitors to designated muster points.

The drill was designed to assess the level of awareness and responsiveness of occupants to emergency evacuation procedures in the event of a fire incident.
Speaking after the exercise, the General Manager, HSE, Engr. Ahmed Rufai Ibrahim, described the drill as successful, commending the orderly and prompt evacuation by staff and visitors. He noted that the initiative represents a critical step toward reinforcing safety standards and emergency readiness within the organization.

Also addressing participants, the Principal Manager (Fire Safety), Mr. Monday Johnson, praised the disciplined conduct observed during the drill and emphasized the need for regular exercises to sustain awareness and preparedness across the workforce.

A representative of the Nigerian Fire Service, Kolade John, highlighted that the drill was purely a simulation but stressed the importance of continuous familiarization with evacuation procedures in public facilities. He warned that fire incidents can occur unexpectedly, making preparedness essential at all times.

The exercise reflects TCN’s ongoing commitment to maintaining a safe working environment and equipping its workforce with the necessary skills for effective emergency response.
