A major political development is unfolding in Taraba State as a support group has purchased the All Progressives Congress (APC), governorship nomination form for Chief Dr. David Sabo Kente ahead of the 2027 elections, signaling rising momentum around his candidacy.

Chief Kente, a prominent APC stalwart and philanthropist, formally accepted the nomination form on Saturday, May 2, 2026, following days of consultations and mounting pressure from party stakeholders and political groups across the state.

The decision comes after a series of high-level meetings held in Wukari between April 14 and 15, where Kente had initially resisted calls to join the governorship race. However, persistent appeals from party leaders and grassroots supporters ultimately swayed his position.

The nomination form was procured by a political group led by former APC State Secretary, Hon. Godwin Villannah, in what observers describe as a calculated effort to strengthen internal democracy within the party and position a formidable contender ahead of the polls.

Political analysts view Kente’s entry into the race as a potential game changer, citing his longstanding influence within the APC and his role in building the party’s structure in Taraba State since 2016. Over the years, he has developed extensive grassroots networks and maintained a strong support base across various communities.

In his acceptance remarks, Chief Kente called on party faithful and the people of Taraba State to rally behind his aspiration, promising inclusive governance and people-focused policies if elected.

With his formal entry into the race, expectations are mounting that Kente will soon unveil his policy direction and begin widespread consultations across the state as the APC prepares for its primaries ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
