Prof. Bolanle Awe is a Pioneer of Feminist History, says UI VC

The Vice-Chancellor, University of Ibadan Prof. Kayode Adebowale mni, FAS has described the past works of Prof. Bolanle Awe as a significant contribution in feminist history. The VC said that with her focus on women, women’s rights and women’s capacities, Mama Awe led the nation, continent and the world at large to an altar of enlightenment about the meaning of gender justice and gender equity.

Professor Adebowale stated this when the Conveners of ‘Prof. Bolanle Awe at 90’ Conference paid him a courtesy visit in his office on Monday.

The VC remarked that it was Prof. Awe that mobilised people and resources to create the Women Research and Documentation Centrer (WORDOC) at the University of Ibadan.

The leader of the visiting team and the Dean , Faculty of Arts, University of Lagos, Prof. Olufunke Adeboye thanked the VC for the warm reception. She informed the VC that the 2-day conference was an intellectual gathering to celebrate Mama Awe at 90 with  a good number of scientific papers to be presented in several panel sessions.

The two- day conference was put together by the University of Texas, University of Ibadan, and University of Lagos.

Other members of the team were the Head, Department of History, UI, Prof. Rasheed Olaniyi; Director, WORDOC, UI, Dr. Sharon Adetutu Omotoso and Brand Manager, Mr. Olusegun Olapade
