NSCDC Boss Audi Rewards Outstanding Sports Personnel At First NSCDC Sports Awards.

Commandant General (CG), of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Ahmed Abubakar Audi, has charged officers and Men of the Corps to remain loyal, dedicated, steadfast and committed to their primary responsibilities as well as the Renewed Hope Agenda of Mr. President by remaining patriotic and committed to the discharge of their statutory mandate as spelt out in the Corps enabling Act.

The Commandant General who gave the charge at this year’s Sports Award night held at NSCDC National Headquarters Indoor Sports Hall, maintained that “this way we shall collectively re-assure Nigerians that the security of their lives, property, and investments are guaranteed.”

According to him, the event was put together to celebrate, recognise and honour some personnel of the Corps who have distinguished themselves and have made the Corps and the country proud at major tournaments such as National and International competitions.

Further, he said the purpose is to motivate, encourage and serve as a stimulant to positively impact on their job performance and service to their fatherland.

He described the award night as unique, cognizant of the fact that sports, is a notable unifying factor across the globe,
“…Sports is a critical factor in bringing together people with divergent views, religions and ethnic backgrounds. It has equally been noted to have raised the profile of many countries in the world thereby bringing development to bear on such countries. Therefore, any contribution made towards sports development, is indeed a generous contribution to the development of a nation…” the CG added.

He called on well-meaning Nigerians to realign themselves to the development of sports in the country through sponsorship, thereby contributing to the process of transformation and the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to foster good governance through sports by developing talents that will bring glory and honour to Nigeria.

The CG said the Corps continues to focus attention on discovering, encouraging and developing talents, while it remains focused on its primary responsibilities.

He reiterated that NSCDC has continued to display a high sense of commitment to any venture it believes in, saying this has made the Corps remain a household name in the area of sports development as well as its primary responsibilities of providing security for Critical National Assets and Infrastructure among other core mandates.

The high point of the event was the presentation of Awards to the personnel who excelled in different sports, they include Ogho O. Egwero, 3-time Athletics Gold Medalist in the All African Games, Omotosho Omolara Ogunmakinju, African Athletics Championship Gold Medalist, Fatima Bello, Current African Champion in Table Tennis and ranked No.1 in Nigeria, Akanbi Rilwan Dan, West African Champion in Table Tennis, Deborah Pam Badung, Winner, Chief of Defence Staff Marathon 2023, Aliu K. Attai Mohammed, World and Africa Lightweight Champion in Professional Wrestling among others.

The awards were given to deserving officers in sporting events such as Athletics, basketball, Badminton, handball, Karate, Taekwondo, Swimming, Table Tennis, and volleyball Ball among others.

Also speaking in an address of welcome, ACG Christiana Abiakam, said the award night which was at the instance of CG is to celebrate and award NSCDC’s sportsmen and women who distinguished themselves in their respective sports and demonstrated exceptional ability, zeal, resilience and capacity to bring glory to the Corps and Nigeria.

Goodwill messages were given by the representatives of the Chief of Army Staff, Inspector General of Police, Controller General of Corrections, Corps Marshall FRSC, Minister of Youth and Sports Development and Secretary of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
