Abuja, June 25, 2026 — The National Sports Commission (NSC), in collaboration with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), has inaugurated a seven-member Welfare Committee to support the Super Falcons as they prepare to defend their title at the forthcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
The committee was constituted following a meeting between the Director-General of the NSC, Hon. Bukola Olopade, and the General Secretary of the NFF, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, in Abuja on Wednesday.
NFF Executive Board member Aisha Falode will serve as chairperson of the committee, while Ruth David has been appointed secretary. Other members include Rt. Hon. Margaret Icheen, Babagana Kalli, Emeka Iyama, Aderonke Tinuoye, and Tobechukwu Oluchi.
Speaking on the initiative, Olopade said the Federal Government is committed to ensuring the Super Falcons enjoy a smooth and successful campaign, free from welfare-related distractions.
According to him, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu are personally interested in seeing the team successfully retain its continental crown.
“The President and the First Lady are fully committed to the success of the Super Falcons in Morocco. This ad-hoc committee was established to complement the efforts of the NFF and ensure a seamless campaign for the team,” Olopade said.
He stressed that players’ welfare remains a critical factor in achieving success at major competitions.
“Welfare is a non-negotiable aspect of any team’s success. Through this committee, the players can be assured that both the NSC and NFF are prioritising their well-being throughout the tournament,” he added.
NFF General Secretary Dr. Mohammed Sanusi described the development as a landmark initiative, noting that it is the first time such a committee has been established specifically for the senior women’s national team ahead of a major international competition.
“This demonstrates the level of commitment the NSC is bringing to women’s football in Nigeria. It will further accelerate the growth of the women’s game in the country,” Sanusi said.
He emphasized that the committee’s role is not to duplicate existing responsibilities but to provide additional support that will contribute to a successful and hitch-free campaign for the nine-time African champions.
The Super Falcons will head to Morocco seeking to extend their dominance in African women’s football and add another continental title to their impressive records
