APC Legal Adviser Hails Musawa’s Daura Title, Describes Minister as ‘Queen Amina of Our Time’

The National Legal Adviser (NLA), of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Barrister Murtala Aliyu Kankia, has congratulated the Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musa Musawa, on her conferment with the traditional title “Mairamar Kasar Hausa I,” meaning First Daughter of Hausa Land, by the Emir of Daura, Dr Umar Faruk Umar.
Kankia described the traditional honour as a significant recognition of Musawa’s growing profile and her contributions to the promotion and preservation of Hausa cultural heritage.
The APC legal adviser said he had always believed that Musawa would attain a position that would enable her to represent and promote the heritage of Hausa land at a significant level.
“I know one day she will earn a position representing Hausa land and its heritage,” Kankia said in his congratulatory message.
He noted that the conferment was particularly significant given Musawa’s current position as Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy, a portfolio that places her at the centre of efforts to promote Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage, tourism potential and creative industries.
Kankia also recalled that Musawa had previously been described by some people as “Queen Amina of our time,” in reference to the legendary Hausa warrior queen, Amina of Zazzau.
According to him, the description reflects the expectations surrounding Musawa’s public role and her capacity to project the cultural identity, history and heritage of the Hausa people.
He said the traditional title bestowed on Musawa by the Emir of Daura, one of the foremost traditional institutions in northern Nigeria, should be viewed not only as a personal honour but also as a call to greater responsibility.
Kankia urged the minister to use the recognition as an opportunity to further promote Hausa culture and Nigeria’s diverse cultural heritage on the national and international stages.
He expressed confidence that Musawa would continue to deploy her office towards advancing Nigeria’s arts, cultural heritage, tourism assets and creative industries.
The APC chieftain noted that the Federal Government’s growing emphasis on the creative economy, tourism and cultural development could contribute significantly to economic diversification, job creation, youth empowerment and the strengthening of national identity.
Kankia said Musawa’s traditional recognition was therefore timely, given the increasing importance of culture and tourism in Nigeria’s development strategy.
He congratulated the minister once again, urging her to regard the title as both an honour and a responsibility to the people whose heritage she has been entrusted to promote.
He expressed optimism that Musawa would continue to strengthen the contribution of Nigeria’s creative and tourism economy to national development while preserving and projecting the country’s rich cultural heritage.
