Nigeria’s Envoy to Netherlands Presents Credentials to King Willem-Alexander

Abuja, June 25, 2026 — Nigeria’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Mohammed Idris Haidara, has formally presented his Letters of Credence to King Willem-Alexander at Noordeinde Palace in The Hague, officially commencing his duties as Nigeria’s principal representative in the European nation.

The credential presentation ceremony, held on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, marked a significant diplomatic milestone and underscored the enduring ties between Nigeria and the Netherlands.

During the ceremony, Ambassador Haidara conveyed the warm greetings and best wishes of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the Dutch monarch. He reaffirmed the strong relationship between both countries, describing it as one founded on mutual respect, expanding trade relations, and a shared commitment to multilateral cooperation.

The ambassador highlighted the growing collaboration between Nigeria and the Netherlands in key sectors, including agriculture, renewable energy, maritime security, and international justice. He noted that his appointment by President Tinubu reflects Nigeria’s commitment to deepening bilateral relations,

broadening economic cooperation, and strengthening the longstanding friendship between the two nations.
In keeping with Dutch diplomatic tradition, Ambassador Haidara was transported to Noordeinde Palace in a royal carriage accompanied by the Royal Chamberlain and horsemen of the Royal Netherlands Mounted Police. A military band welcomed the envoy with four ceremonial drumrolls and rendered Nigeria’s national anthem before he inspected the guard of honour.

The ceremony concluded with the formal presentation of credentials and a brief bilateral discussion between King Willem-Alexander and Ambassador Haidara on issues of mutual interest.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the event as a reflection of the cordial and mutually beneficial relationship between Nigeria and the Netherlands and expressed optimism that bilateral cooperation would continue to flourish under Ambassador Haidara’s tenure.
