President of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF), Engineer Musa Nimrod, has expressed satisfaction with the successful conclusion of the first phase of the 2026 Nigeria Volleyball Premier League, describing the competition as a major step forward for the sport in the country.

Speaking after the opening round of the league, Nimrod said the standard of play, organisation and growing international interest in the competition demonstrated the remarkable progress Nigerian volleyball has made.

According to him, the league attracted an average of about 5,000 online visitors daily from nearly 200 countries, reflecting increasing global attention on the domestic championship.

He noted that the quality of the Nigerian league now compares favourably with competitions in Europe, Asia and North Africa, adding that the tournament has achieved its objective of identifying players capable of representing Nigeria at the highest level.

Nimrod attributed the success of the league to the support of stakeholders, particularly the Nigeria Customs Service and its Comptroller-General, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, whom he described as one of volleyball’s strongest supporters.
He also welcomed the extension of the Customs Comptroller-General’s tenure, expressing optimism that the continued support would further enhance the growth of volleyball and sports development in Nigeria.

The NVBF president also applauded the Inspector-General of Police for attending the competition, saying his presence underscored the increasing popularity of volleyball in the country.

Describing the Police chief as a sports enthusiast and former international medallist, Nimrod said the visit boosted spectatorship and reinforced the federation’s belief that volleyball is emerging as one of Nigeria’s fastest-growing sports.

He reaffirmed the federation’s commitment to sustaining the momentum and elevating Nigerian volleyball to compete favourably with leading nations on the global stage.
