The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has concluded the cascading of its 2026–2030 Strategic Plan, marking a significant step toward aligning the Agency’s long-term vision with the operational responsibilities of all its directorates.

The exercise followed the official launch of NiMet’s 2026–2030 Strategy on March 16, 2026, and was designed to translate the Agency’s enterprise-wide objectives into practical, directorate-level action plans that will drive improved performance and service delivery.

Developed using the Balanced Scorecard (BSC) framework, the strategy is built around five strategic pillars and 12 strategic objectives aimed at strengthening meteorological services, improving institutional efficiency, and enhancing Nigeria’s climate resilience.
As part of the implementation process,

NiMet engaged all nine directorates and the Office of the Director General/Chief Executive Officer in a structured strategy cascade to ensure every department clearly understands its role in delivering the Agency’s strategic priorities.

The exercise focused on aligning directorate goals with enterprise objectives, establishing measurable key performance indicators (KPIs), integrating strategic targets into operational activities, and linking organizational goals to individual staff performance to promote greater accountability and ownership.

To facilitate effective participation, the programme was conducted in four batches. The first involved the Directorates of Weather Forecasting Services and Applied Meteorological Services. The second covered the Office of the Director General/CEO, Corporate Services, and Research and Training. The third featured Engineering and Technical Services alongside Human Resource Management and Administration, while the final batch brought together Finance and Accounts, Public Affairs and Customer Protection, and Legal Services.

NiMet said the successful completion of the strategy cascade will strengthen institutional capacity, improve coordination across departments, enhance accountability, and position the Agency to deliver world-class meteorological services that support national development over the next five years.
