The Nigerian Navy has recorded significant operational successes in the ongoing counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency campaign under Operation FASAN YAMMA, reinforcing its role in joint security efforts across the North-West region.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the Navy said its troops, operating in collaboration with other security agencies, carried out a series of coordinated missions that led to the rescue of kidnapped victims and the neutralisation of violent extremist insurgents.

According to the statement, on April 18, 2026, personnel stationed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Ibira responded swiftly to distress calls after gunshots were heard along the Doka–Ibira axis. On arrival, troops engaged armed insurgents in a gun battle. The superior firepower of the naval team forced the attackers to retreat, abandoning their victims.

Five victims were rescued during the operation, though four sustained gunshot injuries and were immediately evacuated to the General Hospital in Idon for medical treatment. One of the victims later died from injuries sustained during the attack. Troops also recovered the victims’ vehicle and commenced pursuit of the fleeing attackers.

In a separate operation on April 20, troops of the 2 National Mission Force Brigade, acting on credible intelligence, successfully carried out an ambush at Anguwan Haske. The operation led to the neutralisation of one insurgent and the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, with no casualties recorded among security personnel.

Similarly, troops deployed at FOB Dokan Karji responded to another distress call from Kushere Village, where suspected insurgents had abducted civilians. The naval team engaged the criminals in a gunfight, overpowering them and forcing their withdrawal. Three kidnapped victims were rescued unharmed during the operation.

The Nigerian Navy said the operations highlight its sustained commitment to combating terrorism and violent extremism, as well as its support for national security objectives through joint military efforts.

It reiterated its resolve to maintain aggressive operations against criminal elements and urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to enhance ongoing efforts across the country.

The statement was signed by Captain A.A. Folorunsho, Director of Naval Information.
