Nigeria Open to Investment, Ready to Deepen Partnership with Norway – Doro
Abuja, June 2, 2026 – The Federal Government has reaffirmed Nigeria’s readiness to attract foreign investment and strengthen international partnerships aimed at driving economic growth, job creation, and poverty reduction.
The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Bernard M. Doro, made the declaration on Tuesday while receiving the Norwegian Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Andreas Kravik, who led a delegation on a courtesy visit to the ministry in Abuja.
Dr. Doro said Nigeria possesses enormous economic potential and remains an attractive destination for investors seeking opportunities across various sectors.
According to him, increased investment in the country would create employment opportunities for Nigerian youths, enabling them to develop their talents and contribute meaningfully to national development.
“There is so much opportunity in Nigeria. When investors come in and invest, Nigerian youths will have more employment opportunities to build their talents and contribute their quota to the economy,” the minister stated.
He emphasized the need for a strong and resilient partnership between Nigeria and its international allies to expand economic opportunities and strengthen the country’s market.
The minister noted that the ministry’s priority is to ensure that the benefits of ongoing macroeconomic reforms translate into tangible improvements in the lives of Nigerians, particularly those affected by humanitarian crises.
Dr. Doro further expressed the ministry’s readiness to collaborate with Norway while adhering to international legal frameworks and aligning with the Kampala Declaration, which addresses food systems, nutrition, economic development, and environmental sustainability across the continent.
Earlier, Mr. Kravik said Norway was seeking stronger collaboration with the Nigerian Government, particularly with the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction.
Describing Nigeria as a major power on the African continent, the Norwegian official said enhanced cooperation between both countries would yield mutual benefits in key areas such as economic development, security, and human rights.
He stressed that closer bilateral relations would further strengthen existing ties and create new opportunities for sustainable development.
Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Olubunmi Olusanya, welcomed the Norwegian delegation and described the visit as an important opportunity to deepen cooperation in humanitarian assistance.
Olusanya expressed appreciation for Norway’s support and voiced optimism that the engagement would lead to stronger collaboration in addressing humanitarian challenges and advancing poverty reduction initiatives in Nigeria.
The visit underscores the growing commitment of both countries to fostering partnerships that promote economic resilience, humanitarian support, and sustainable development.
