Nigeria Extends Condolences to Ghana Over Tragic Helicopter Crash

The Federal Government of Nigeria has expressed its deepest condolences to the Government and people of Ghana following a tragic helicopter crash that claimed the lives of two serving Cabinet Ministers and other top government officials. The deceased include Ghana’s Minister of Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, and Minister of Environment, Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed.

A military helicopter crashed in Ghana’s Ashanti region, killing eight people, including Defense Minister Edward Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed. The helicopter was heading to Obuasi for a mining program launch when it went off radar. An investigation is underway to determine the cause.

An investigation is currently underway to determine the cause of the crash.

In a statement signed by Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nigeria’s Federal Government expressed its solidarity with Ghana during this period of immense grief. The statement read: “Nigeria stands in solidarity with Ghana during this period of immense grief. We share in the sorrow of our brothers and sisters in Ghana and offer our prayers for the peaceful repose of the departed souls,”

The Nigerian government also reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the bonds of friendship and cooperation between Nigeria and Ghana, even in moments of profound loss.

“Our thoughts are also with the families of the deceased, as well as the entire Ghanaian government.

“As neighbours and partners in progress, we reaffirm our commitment to strengthening the bonds of friendship and cooperation between our two nations, even in moments of profound loss.

“May the Almighty grant Ghana the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss”, Kimiebi concluded.
