The Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs has disclaimed a letter circulating on social media and other online platforms, purportedly issued by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu.
Ojukwu, and addressed to the Foreign Minister of the Republic of Liberia.
In a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja, the ministry described the document as fake, unauthorized, and not originating from any official channel of the Federal Government of Nigeria.
According to the ministry, the purported correspondence, which concerns statements allegedly made by a Nigerian religious leader, is a fabrication designed to mislead the public and create unnecessary diplomatic tension between Nigeria and Liberia.
The ministry noted that a preliminary examination of the document revealed several inconsistencies with established diplomatic communication procedures and official correspondence protocols.
“The said letter is fake, unauthorised, and did not emanate from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or any official channel of the Federal Government of Nigeria,” the statement said.
The ministry urged members of the public, media organizations, and other stakeholders to disregard the document entirely and refrain from sharing unverified materials capable of spreading misinformation.
It further disclosed that relevant authorities and security agencies have been notified and are taking steps to trace the source of the fraudulent document and ensure those responsible are brought to justice.
Reaffirming Nigeria’s commitment to professional diplomacy, the ministry assured the Government and people of Liberia of Nigeria’s continued friendship, goodwill, and cordial bilateral relations.
The statement was signed by Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
