Nigeria Commiserates with Zambia Over the Demise of Former President Edgar Chagwa Lungu

The Federal Government of Nigeria has extended its deepest condolences to the Government and people of the Republic of Zambia following the passing of His Excellency Edgar Chagwa Lungu, former President of Zambia. President Lungu passed away on June 5, 2025, at the age of 68.

President Lungu served Zambia with dedication from 2015 to 2021, promoting national unity and economic diversification.

His administration oversaw significant infrastructure development projects, contributing to Zambia’s growth.

President Lungu played a key role in strengthening Africa’s collective voice on the global stage and promoting regional solidarity.

He appointed Zambia’s first female President and implemented initiatives to promote inclusivity and national unity.

The Government of Nigeria stands in solidarity with the Lungu family, the Patriotic Front, and all Zambians during this period of national mourning. Nigeria joins the international community in celebrating President Lungu’s life and times.
