Fresh off his victory as a 2025 NFL Super Bowl champion, Nigerian-born American football star Moro Ojomo has issued a passionate call to fellow Nigerian athletes abroad: invest in the future of Nigerian sports.

Ojomo, who was in Abuja on an official visit to the Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, urged Nigerian-born sports professionals to give back to their roots by establishing sports academies that would help unearth and develop young talents across the country.

“We Must Build the Future of Nigerian Sports”

Addressing the NiDCOM boss, Ojomo emphasized the importance of structured talent development and the role successful athletes must play in shaping the next generation.

“As a champion, I believe in giving back. True success is not just about personal achievements but about empowering others. I propose the establishment of sports academies that will serve as training grounds for young Nigerians, giving them a platform to develop their talents and achieve greatness,” Ojomo stated.

The Super Bowl winner further expressed his desire to popularize American football and rugby in Nigeria, revealing that efforts were already underway to position Nigeria for Olympic participation in rugby.

“As Nigerians, we have a duty to invest in our communities. The grass is greener where you water it let’s water our grassroots, nurture our youth, and create a brighter future for our country.”

In response, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa praised Ojomo’s dedication to his homeland, highlighting that no matter how much success one attains abroad, home remains home.

“We are proud of what you have accomplished, and even more, of your desire to uplift younger Nigerians. This is the spirit we want to encourage diasporans using their influence and resources to inspire and empower the next generation,” she said.

Dabiri-Erewa further extended an invitation to Ojomo to be a special guest at the upcoming Diaspora Day, where he can share his experiences and continue to motivate young Nigerians.

“We want to see you again and again,” she said, encouraging other Nigerian-born athletes to follow his lead in contributing to the nation’s growth.

She concluded with a rallying cry for national unity and progress:

“We are the greatest country in the world. All we need is to come together and work as one.”
