The Federal Government has flagged off the construction of the Akwanga–Jos–Bauchi–Gombe–Maiduguri Superhighway, a major infrastructure project aimed at improving transportation, stimulating economic growth and strengthening connectivity across the North-Central and North-East regions.

The project, launched in Akwanga, Nasarawa State, is expected to bring relief to millions of commuters, motorists, farmers, traders and businesses that have long grappled with the poor condition of the highway, which has contributed to prolonged travel times, increased transportation costs and safety concerns.

Representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the flag-off ceremony, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, said the project reflects the Federal Government’s commitment to sustained investment in strategic infrastructure capable of driving economic development and improving the quality of life of Nigerians.

According to him, the highway will enhance the movement of people, goods and services, reduce logistics costs and unlock new economic opportunities for communities along the corridor.

The event also highlighted ongoing infrastructure development in Nasarawa State under Governor Abdullahi Sule, including the construction of a modern flyover, expansion of road networks and installation of contemporary street lighting designed to improve urban mobility, public safety and economic activities.

The Federal Government said the highway project forms part of its broader agenda to modernise the nation’s transport infrastructure, deepen collaboration with state governments and promote inclusive development through improved regional connectivity.

Officials expressed optimism that the project would not only ease transportation challenges but also strengthen trade, agriculture and investment across the northern corridor, delivering long-term economic benefits to millions of Nigerians.
