The Nigerian Air Force (NAF), has sustained aerial surveillance operations in support of ongoing efforts to rescue teachers and pupils abducted from Yawota and Ahoro-Esinele communities in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, disclosed this during a courtesy visit by the representative of the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, the Air Officer Commanding (AOC) Logistics Command, Air Vice Marshal Abubakar Suleh, on June 5, 2026.
According to the governor, the NAF swiftly deployed an aerial surveillance platform immediately after the abduction was reported, providing vital intelligence that has strengthened search-and-rescue efforts. He noted that information gathered from the surveillance missions continues to assist security agencies in monitoring developments and coordinating operations aimed at securing the safe release of the victims.
Makinde appealed to residents to remain patient and supportive, assuring them that every available resource is being deployed to ensure a successful outcome. He praised the Chief of the Air Staff and the Nigerian Air Force for their prompt intervention and sustained assistance, particularly as the state’s newly acquired aerial assets are yet to become operational.
The governor explained that the surveillance support was especially crucial because Oyo State’s newly acquired aircraft are still being assembled at the NAF Base in Lagos. He added that the platforms were procured following consultations with the Air Force to guarantee access to maintenance services, engineering support, and pilot training.
Makinde expressed confidence that the new assets would significantly improve security operations across Oyo State and neighbouring states once they are fully operational.
Speaking on behalf of the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Suleh reaffirmed the Nigerian Air Force’s commitment to supporting efforts aimed at securing the release of the abducted victims. He also conveyed the solidarity of the Air Force with the government and people of Oyo State.
Suleh commended the state government for its continued support for NAF projects and infrastructure development, stressing the importance of collaboration in addressing security challenges.
The Nigerian Air Force reiterated its commitment to working closely with other security agencies and stakeholders to protect lives and property while supporting nationwide efforts to tackle insecurity.
