As the world celebrates Children’s Day 2025, Amb. Avishigh Cephas M., Executive Director of MACS Foundation, has issued a poignant message highlighting the struggles faced by African children, particularly in Nigeria.

He raised some concerns which include:

  • Food Insecurity: Many children suffer from malnutrition and stunted growth due to inadequate access to nutritious food.
  • Poor Healthcare: Inadequate primary healthcare leaves children vulnerable to preventable illnesses.
  • Lack of Quality Education: Many children are denied access to quality education, hindering their future prospects.
  • Insecurity and Poverty: Conflict, poverty, and inequality continue to hold back the continent’s progress.

While the MACS Foundation emphasizes the need for collective action to address these challenges. Amb. Cephas urges governments, NGOs, civil society, families, and communities to work together to:

  • Ensure Food Sufficiency: Promote sustainable agriculture to provide enough food for children to thrive.
  • Drive Quality Healthcare: Advocate for accessible and quality healthcare for all children.
  • Create Safe Environments: Establish safe spaces where children can grow, learn, and play without fear.

Despite the challenges, the MACS Foundation remains hopeful and committed to improving the lives of African children. As Amb. Cephas notes, “The world we desire tomorrow must begin with the investments we make in them today.” The foundation calls for bold and intentional action to build a future where every child can thrive.
