KATSINA INFENOR: Islamic teacher, 34 others arrested for looting

A 43-year-old Islamic teacher, Muhammadu Abba, and 34 suspects paraded at the Katsina State Police headquarters for looting items worth thousands of naira during the fire outbreak at the Katsina Central market on Monday.

According to the Katsina Police Image Maker, SP Gambo Isah, the wife of the Islamic teacher reported him to the police that the husband looted items and hide under their bed.

Parading the suspects before newsmen at the Police headquarters, Katsina, the image maker of the Katsina Police Command, SP Gambo Isah, said the teacher, immediately arrested by his men

“Muhammadu Abba is an Islamic teacher, teaches in Islamiyah school, but went looting items during the fire incident at the central market. His wife reported him to the police that her husband was keeping some looted items under their bed in the house “.

SP Gambo Isah, warned residents of Katsina that whoever had some looted items in their custody should return such to the police or face the full wrath of law.

According to him “We have intelligence information that some looted items are still being kept in some houses in the town”.

SP Gambo Isah however, appealed to residents who have information on places where the looted items are being kept, to report to the police.

The 35 suspects including the Islamic teacher have confessed to have carried out looting as they would be prosecuted after completion of the investigation accordingly.

Other suspects were mainly young adults while the looted items included generators, cartoons of peak milks, bales of clothes, household materials among others.

It would be recalled that about 1000 shops and items worth billions of naira were gutted by fire at the Katsina Central Market in the early hours of Monday morning.
