As the country celebrates this year’s Democracy Day, the Nigerian Guild of Investigative Journalists (NGIJ) has called on politicians in the country to have the good of the masses at heart and the uplift of the country.
In a Press Release made available to journalists and signed by the President of the Guild, Mr. Wale Abydeen, the Guild stressed the need for the political class to play the game according to the rules.
He noted that, “late Mashood Abiola (GCFR) is celebrated today because of his selflessness and commitment to the ideals of democracy.
“This is a lesson for politicians of today to emulate. The country, at this time, is in dire need for patriots who will be ready to sacrifice self for the general good of the people.”
He also urged Nigerians to remain united and bury their differences so as to facilitate even development that would further strengthen the nation’s democracy.
