INEC: Gombe, Kano, Bauchi, Delta Bye-Elections Provide Roadmap for 2027- INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has described Saturday’s bye-elections in Gombe, Kano, Bauchi and Delta states as critical exercises for assessing its preparedness for the 2027 General Election.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, SAN, stated this while monitoring the elections from the Commission’s National Situation Room at its headquarters in Abuja.
The elections were held in the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency of Gombe State, Dawakin Kudu State Constituency of Kano State, Sakwa and Disina State Constituencies of Bauchi State, and Udu State Constituency of Delta State.
Amupitan said the Commission would use lessons from the exercises to strengthen its operational, logistical and technological preparations for the 2027 elections.
He said every election, regardless of its size, provided an opportunity for INEC to test its systems and improve its readiness for larger electoral exercises.
“These four bye-elections provide indispensable operational lessons for the Commission as we systematically chart our roadmap toward the 2027 General Election,” he said.
The INEC chairman explained that the Commission was using the elections to audit its logistics framework, test technological deployment and assess the readiness of its field personnel.
He also disclosed that the Situation Room enabled the Commission to identify and resolve operational challenges that emerged before polling commenced.
“Our primary mandate in the Situation Room is monitoring and proactive crisis resolution,” Amupitan said, assuring Nigerians that INEC remained committed to improving the efficiency and credibility of future elections.
The chairman, accompanied by National Commissioners and senior management officials, monitored reports from the various states throughout the exercise.
He commended the technical team and other officials for facilitating effective monitoring of the multi-state elections and providing timely operational feedback to the Commission.
