The Senatorial Aspirant of the Akamkpa/Biase Federal Constituency under the auspices of the Labour Party, Hon Daniel Asuquo believes that a mind shift especially among the youths is required to make Cross River State an economically viable State again.

Hon Asuquo, who is popularly known as ‘Dansuki’ made this known in an interactive session with journalists as he discussed sensitive issues in the State and how he intends to solve them.

According to Chief Asuquo, a system where young men are ‘taught how to fish instead of giving them fish will benefit them and the State in the long run’.

‘There are has to be a system where not only skill acquisition programmes are organized, but financial assistance should be given to the young minds who may not have the wherewithal to invest in their skills.

Dansuki believes that the system of giving handouts to people who come around can never be sustained as those people will always coming back with more demands that have to be met. But teaching them to be independent financially will not only benefit them in making wealth but will also help the State in terms of revenue generation.

He said: ‘It was because of this mindset that I decided to invest in Agriculture which ended up creating direct employment for my people. I acquired 1,000 hectares of land with more than two hundred staff working on the farm who are well engaged with training and retraining packages attached for self-realization.

‘If I were to give them a token of twenty thousand Naira every month, the truth is that I might not be able to sustain it. But I instead created a system where they are given a unique opportunity to empower themselves with the requisite knowledge, making them useful citizens and it gives me great joy and relief’… Hon. Daniel Asuquo.

The former Gubernatorial Aspirant of the People’s Democratic Party in the State called for candidates of any Party and office to remember that the people gave them the mandate and should make sure they are directly touched by your representation.
