“God Has Not Chosen Your President — You Will.”
By Citizen Bolaji O. Akinyemi
“Next president has been decided by God.”
That statement is not spirituality.
It is not prophecy.
It is not even harmless ignorance.
It is a theological error and a dangerous political weapon.
In a democracy, such language is a landmine. Every student of scripture must reject it without hesitation.
The truth is simpler, cleaner, and biblically consistent:
The next president is known by God, but will be chosen by the people.
Anything beyond that is manipulation dressed in religious clothing.
The Subtle Fraud of “Divine Decision”
When religious actors say “God has already decided,” they are not elevating faith. They are disabling responsibility.
They are planting passivity.
They are dulling civic consciousness.
They are quietly telling citizens:
Do not think.
Do not question.
Do not engage.
Do not vote.
Because “heaven has concluded the matter.”
That is not prophecy.
That is psychological conditioning.
And yes, it is a form of spiritual manipulation.
Scripture Does Not Support Political Fatalism
God never removes responsibility from people. He enforces it.
In Deuteronomy 30:19, the instruction is unmistakable:
“I have set before you life and death… therefore choose life.”
Choose.
Not watch.
Not wait.
Not submit blindly.
Choose.
In Joshua 24:15:
“Choose this day whom you will serve.”
Again: choice, responsibility, accountability.
Even under a theocratic system, God did not bypass human process.
In the house of Jesse, every son stood to be considered. Participation was not denied, even when divine preference was unknown.
And when the process failed to identify the right man, God did not cancel participation. He corrected it.
David was brought in, not because the process was irrelevant, but because it was incomplete.
That is not divine dictatorship.
That is divine oversight.
Ordination Is Not Election
One of the most abused scriptures in Nigeria today is:
“The powers that be are ordained of God.”
Ordained, not selected.
God does not conduct elections. Citizens do.
But once a leader emerges through the constitutional process, God permits and works through that authority within His sovereign framework.
This is ordination after process, not imposition before process.
So let us be clear:
God does not vote.
God does not rig.
God does not cancel human agency.
He gives wisdom.
He gives conscience.
He gives discernment.
And then He watches what you do with it.
The 2027 Trap: Religion as Political Sedative
As 2027 approaches, expect more of these “prophetic declarations.”
They will increase in frequency.
They will grow in confidence.
They will sound authoritative.
But many will be strategically deployed.
Because a passive population is easier to control than an awakened one.
When people believe “it is already decided,” they disengage.
And when citizens disengage, democracy collapses quietly, without resistance.
A Crisis of Credibility
It becomes even more troubling when those making these declarations lack moral standing.
How does a man ignore unresolved issues around his own household, serious allegations tied to public corruption, and then step forward to issue national prophetic direction?
Authority without accountability is hypocrisy.
And prophecy without integrity is noise.
If you cannot speak truth about your immediate environment, you have no credibility to declare destiny over a nation.
Church, This Is Your Moment
This is where apostolic responsibility becomes critical.
The Church must now:
Draw a clear line between theocracy and democracy.
Reject every attempt to weaponize God’s name for political manipulation.
Educate believers on their civic duty as a spiritual responsibility.
Restore discernment over blind submission.
This is not the time for silence.
This is the time for clarity.
Citizenship Is a Sacred Trust
Let us speak plainly to ourselves:
In 2023, Nigerians made a choice.
Leadership was hired.
And in a democracy, those who hire also retain the power to review, renew, or terminate that mandate.
That is not rebellion.
That is responsibility.
So the real questions before 2027 are not prophetic. They are practical:
Has the current leadership performed?
Has it secured lives?
Has it stabilized the economy?
Has it improved education, health, and welfare?
Has it justified the trust given?
If yes, renew.
If no, replace.
That is the duty of citizens.
Final Word: Reclaim Your Mind
God is not confused.
But many are confusing people in His name.
Do not surrender your mind.
Do not outsource your responsibility.
Do not spiritualize your silence.
The mandate does not come from the altar.
It comes from the people.
And when the people decide, the Constitution empowers.
And in that framework, God ordains.
Let every prophet of confusion be quiet for now.
When citizens have done their duty, then we can listen to what lies ahead and judge it with discernment.
Until then:
Think.
Engage.
Decide.
Because God has not chosen your president.
You will.
