NBBF President Kida Leads Strategic Move with Appointment of David Fizdale as D’Tigers Head Coach

In line with the Nigeria Basketball Federation’s (NBBF) long-term vision of building a world-class basketball structure and highly competitive national teams, the President of the NBBF, Engr. Ahmadu Musa Kida, has spearheaded a major step toward strengthening the technical capacity of Nigeria’s basketball ecosystem.
Under his leadership, and following recommendations from the Federation’s Technical Committee, the NBBF has approved the immediate appointment of renowned NBA coach, David Fizdale, as the new Head Coach of Nigeria’s Men’s Senior National Basketball Team, D’Tigers.
Engr. Kida described the appointment as a deliberate and strategic decision aimed at harnessing basketball talents both within Nigeria and across the diaspora, while positioning the national team to compete effectively at the highest international level.
“David Fizdale represents the level of leadership, professionalism, and basketball knowledge that aligns with our vision for the future of Nigerian basketball,” Kida stated. “His experience, relationships, and understanding of the modern global game will be invaluable as we continue building a program capable of competing with the very best in the world.”
The NBBF President emphasized that beyond leading D’Tigers on the court, Coach Fizdale’s role will extend into broader developmental objectives. According to him, the Federation is committed not only to immediate success but also to building a sustainable basketball system.
“Beyond the national team, we believe his presence will contribute significantly to player development, coaching education, and the continued growth of basketball in Nigeria. This is about building a sustainable future and creating an environment where Nigerian basketball can thrive globally for years to come,” he added.
Coach Fizdale is widely respected for his extensive NBA coaching experience, strong leadership qualities, and proven ability in player development, team culture building, and discipline. His appointment marks a significant milestone in the Federation’s efforts to elevate Nigerian basketball on the global stage.
With this move, Engr. Ahmadu Musa Kida continues to demonstrate his commitment to strategic growth, technical excellence, and the long-term development of basketball in Nigeria.
