FG Strengthens Humanitarian Collaboration with Kaduna, Niger States

The Federal Government of Nigeria, has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening partnerships with state governments to enhance humanitarian response and accelerate poverty reduction across the country.
The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr. Bernard M. Doro, gave the assurance while receiving separate delegations from Kaduna and Niger states during courtesy visits to his office in Abuja.
During a meeting with the Kaduna State delegation, led by the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Comrade Yunana Markus Barde, and the Chairman of the Kaduna State House of Assembly Committee on Humanitarian Affairs, Hon. Umar Auwal Bajimi, the Minister outlined key reforms being implemented by the Ministry to improve humanitarian service delivery.
Dr. Doro said the recently launched National Poverty Lab would drive evidence-based policymaking and strengthen efforts to reduce poverty nationwide. He also highlighted the importance of the One Humanitarian, One Poverty Response System (OHOPRS), describing it as a coordinated framework designed to deliver sustainable and people-centred humanitarian interventions.
The Minister commended Kaduna State’s active participation in the Ministry’s flagship programmes, particularly the launch of OHOPRS, and reiterated the Federal Government’s readiness to deepen collaboration with the state. He also disclosed plans to visit Kaduna to further strengthen the partnership and advance shared humanitarian priorities.
In his remarks, Comrade Barde congratulated the Minister on the recent wedding of his daughter and applauded the Ministry for fostering closer cooperation with state governments. He appealed for Federal Government support for humanitarian councils established across Kaduna’s local government areas and sought additional interventions for persons with disabilities and other vulnerable groups.
The Minister also received a delegation from Niger State led by the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Dr. Ahmed Ibrahim Inga. The delegation included the Director-General of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), directors and other senior officials.
Dr. Inga commended the Ministry’s efforts in strengthening collaboration with state humanitarian institutions, noting that the relationship between the Federal Ministry and state governments has become more productive. He observed that Niger State continues to face significant humanitarian challenges and appealed for sustained Federal Government support to address the needs of affected communities.
He further acknowledged the Minister’s previous humanitarian interventions in the state, describing them as impactful and beneficial.
Responding, Dr. Doro assured the delegation that the Ministry would continue working closely with state governments to strengthen humanitarian response mechanisms, improve coordination and expand support for vulnerable Nigerians.
He stressed that addressing Nigeria’s humanitarian challenges requires effective collaboration among all tiers of government and reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to promoting coordinated, sustainable and people-focused interventions across the country.
