The Federal Government of Nigeria has pledged to fully support completion of the University of Transportation Daura.

President Muhammadu Buhari, stated this on Monday, December 2, 2019 during the flag off of the construction of the University of Transportation in Daura, noting that it will create avenue for domestication of general transportation science, especially the railway.

“The University will among other things pave way for the domestication of railway engineering and general transportation sciences in Nigeria, thereby bridging the technology and skill gap in the railway sector and the transportation industry at large.

“Our gratitude goes to the investors, CCECC; the Katsina State Government for speedily providing land for the university; and the Ministry of Transportation for championing the initiative.

“We will continue to pursue partnerships of this nature to bring development to Nigeria”, PMB said.

Recall that the University, is one of the three projects conceived by the Minister of Transportation, Hon. Chibuike Amaechi, which he insisted that CCECC should embark on as part of their corporate social responsibility even before he signed contracts with them.

Other projects are; the training of Nigerians to localise rail technology and maintenance of rail infrastructure. To that effect, 60 Nigerian children are now in their second year in China studying Railway Technology.

Also the Wagon Assembly Plant in Kajola- Ogun State, which is expected to enable Nigeria produce Railway rolling stocks locally and even export to other African countries.

The projects are funded by the Chinese company as part of benefits accruing to Nigeria through her partnership with them on the modernisation of Railway infrastructure in the country, and the University of Transportation will ensure that Railway Engineering and general transportation sciences will be taught in Nigeria to Nigerians.

The investment by China Civil Engineering Construction Company (CCECC), is the first of its kind in Africa.
