The Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, has reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to supporting the Nigerian Army in strengthening its air transport operations, with a focus on personnel welfare and logistics expansion.

Kuku gave the assurance on Tuesday during a strategic meeting with senior officers from the Nigerian Army Corps of Supply and Transport in Lagos. The delegation was led by the Corps Commander, Nansak Danjuma Shagaya.

Speaking during the visit, Major General Shagaya said the engagement was aimed at consolidating the long-standing relationship between the Army and FAAN. He disclosed that discussions centred on plans to revive the Nigerian Army Air Freight Company and explore collaboration on proposed welfare flight operations for military personnel.

According to him, the Army is seeking FAAN’s support to ensure seamless operations for the welfare flights, including the provision of designated holding areas and necessary airport support systems for officers and soldiers on transit or connecting flights.

He noted that such arrangements would significantly enhance the travel experience and overall welfare of troops, particularly those deployed across various operational theatres.

In her response, Kuku welcomed the initiative and reiterated FAAN’s readiness to collaborate with the Army. She assured the delegation of the Authority’s full support in facilitating efficient and secure operations for the planned welfare flights, in line with FAAN’s mandate to deliver safe and passenger-friendly airport services.

The meeting highlights ongoing efforts by both institutions to strengthen inter-agency cooperation while improving logistics and welfare frameworks for military personnel across Nigeria.
