Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has called on women across the country to leverage their numerical strength and influence to drive national development, as she attended the National Women Mega Empowerment and Rally in Abuja.
The event, held at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, brought together thousands of women from across the federation in a show of unity and renewed commitment to socio-economic and political inclusion.
Addressing the gathering, the First Lady said women, who constitute over half of Nigeria’s population, hold a strategic position in shaping the country’s future.
“The significance of this gathering cannot be overstated. Women represent over 50 percent of the population and are uniquely positioned to influence change and steer the nation toward a greater future,” she said.
Senator Remi Tinubu commended the Minister of Women Affairs, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, for advancing women-focused initiatives, noting that efforts to put resources directly in the hands of women would strengthen families and communities.
According to her, empowering women to make informed decisions would help address socio-economic challenges and aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which promotes inclusive governance and greater female participation in decision-making.
She reiterated the President’s stance that Nigeria’s progress has consistently been driven by resilient women who have contributed to democracy, economic growth, and community development.
Receiving a Women’s Charter presented at the rally, the First Lady assured participants of the Federal Government’s continued support, pledging to deliver the document to the President for consideration.
She also acknowledged the sacrifices made by Nigerians amid ongoing reforms, expressing confidence that current policies would yield long-term benefits.
“The first term of Mr President has focused on laying a solid foundation through bold reforms that will usher in lasting prosperity,” she said.
Tinubu further urged mothers to remain steadfast in raising responsible children, stressing the importance of discipline, patriotism, and moral values in nation-building.
In her remarks, the Minister of Women Affairs, Hon. Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, described the rally as the emergence of a unified national movement aimed at empowering women across all regions of the country.
She said the initiative reflects the growing momentum of the Power of 10 Million Women campaign, which seeks to mobilise millions of women into a coordinated force for economic growth and social transformation.
Highlighting the resilience of Nigerian women, the minister said the rally symbolised a convergence of diverse voices into a single movement committed to shaping Nigeria’s future.
“Today, we gather not as fragmented voices, but as one united movement driven by shared purpose and destiny,” she said.
The National Women Mega Empowerment and Rally is part of broader efforts to deepen grassroots mobilisation, expand economic opportunities, and strengthen the role of women as key drivers of national development.
