Defence Minister Reaffirms Nigeria’s Commitment to Global Peacekeeping at 81st UNGA

NEW YORK: The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd), OFR, has reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening its role in international peacekeeping and global security efforts.
Musa made the commitment on Tuesday during Nigeria’s participation in the opening session of the 81st United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
The Minister attended the opening session alongside Vice President Kashim Shettima, GCON, who led the Nigerian delegation to the global gathering.
Following the opening of the Assembly, Musa paid an operational visit to the Defence Section of the Permanent Mission of Nigeria to the United Nations.
During the visit, the Defence Attaché, Brigadier General E.A. Koleosho, briefed the Minister on the strategic activities and operational commitments of the Defence Section.
Musa commended Koleosho and his team for what he described as their professionalism, loyalty and commitment to upholding the principles of the United Nations and the values of the Nigerian Armed Forces.
He reiterated the commitment of the Federal Government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to restoring and expanding Nigeria’s participation in international peace and security initiatives.
The Defence Minister stressed that the administration was committed to reinvigorating Nigeria’s participation in peacekeeping operations around the world as part of efforts to promote stability and security.
Nigeria has historically played a significant role in United Nations peacekeeping operations, contributing military and security personnel to missions in different parts of the world.
Musa’s visit to the Defence Section underscores the government’s stated intention to strengthen Nigeria’s engagement with multilateral peace and security operations.
