A Magistrate Court in Lagos has sentenced 14 individuals to various jail terms over cable theft and vandalism at the Terminal 1 construction site of Murtala Muhammed International Airport.

The convicts were arraigned on multiple counts after being apprehended around 7:00 p.m. on April 20, 2026, following an intelligence-led operation coordinated by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria in collaboration with the Joint Military Task Force and other security agencies operating within the airport.

Delivering judgment, the court handed down one month imprisonment on the first count, six months on the second count, and 12 months on the third count, with all sentences to run concurrently.

The matter has, however, been adjourned to June 16 for further proceedings concerning a defendant who challenged the charges.

In a separate case, two individuals standing trial for alleged theft of alcohol also appeared before the court. Although they initially pleaded guilty, they later disputed aspects of the prosecution’s claims. The court adjourned the case to June 30 for continuation.

Meanwhile, a juvenile connected to a related incident was present during proceedings. Authorities confirmed that the minor has been returned to the police for appropriate handling in accordance with legal provisions governing juvenile cases.
