Rt Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi who was born on day that the world set aside to celebrate children, must have had memorable experience and lots of excitement to remember as a child. Especially on every 27th of May.
In the words of a media colleague, “His over 50 years of existence have been very eventful as he himself would at every opportunity recount how he has moved from a childhood where he had next to nothing and worked his way to a place today where he can be of help to many.”
He relishes to tell that he is an Ubima, Ikwerre born Nigerian. His stance on the Roman Catholic faith is glaring, keeping to all demands required by the Church to make Heaven, but very accommodating and respectful to other denominations and religions.
Amaechi who finds it very easy to change the impossible to opportunities, became the fifth Governor of Rivers State and from 2007 to 2011 and was re-elected for a second term from 26 April 2011 to 2015.
He serves Nigeria currently as the Minister for Transportation where aviation (in the first tenure as Minister), railway, marine and their related establishments has gone through tremendous transformation in the last four years.
The railway which was abandoned for about 40 years has received tremendous attention. The Lagos/ Ibadan axis of the standard gauge would have been commissioned by President Muhammadu Buhari, as planned; again, plans to start the Ibadan/Kano, Calabar- Onitsha- Owerri, Nnewi, Lagos standard guage and many more to link with rehabilitation of the old rail lines would have started but for the covid-19 pandemic.
He has a very supportive wife by name Dame Judith Amaechi and three children: Chimkamkpa Amaechi, Lemchi Amaechi, Obinna Amaechi
