BANGLA NEW YEAR 1432: Bangladesh, Nigeria Pledge to Deepen Bilateral Relations

The Bangladesh High Commission in Nigeria celebrated the Bengali New Year, 1432, on Saturday in Abuja, reaffirming its commitment to strengthen diplomatic ties with Nigeria. The celebration marked an opportunity for both nations to explore areas of mutual cooperation and benefit.

The Bengali New Year is celebrated by the Bengali people worldwide on April 14 and April 15 in the Indian states of West Bengal, Tripura, and Assam. It is a festival based on the spring harvest which marks the first day of the new year in the Bengali calendar. It highlights culture, traditional clothing, dances and food.

Md. Ahiduzzaman Liton, Charge d’Affaires of the Bangladesh High Commission in Nigeria, expressed optimism that the new year would bring renewed hope for happiness and prosperity for all.

“We believe that the celebration of the Bangla New Year underscores the importance of cultural traditions in fostering international relations,” he said.

Liton disclosed that there is a growing enthusiasm among businesses and entrepreneurs, adding that collaborations are flourishing in various sectors, including Information and Communications Technology (ICT), agriculture, knitwear, government-to-state trade between Nigeria and Bangladesh.

He reaffirmed Bangladesh’s commitment to enhancing collaboration with Nigeria, emphasising the importance of strengthening bilateral relations for the benefit of both nations.

Speaking Amb. Mohammed Haidara, Deputy Director of the Asia and Pacific Division in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, congratulated Bangladesh on the occasion of the new year and said that the New Year celebration serves as a reminder of the potential for partnership and prosperity, laying the groundwork for a bright future in Bangladesh-Nigeria relations.
