APPMEN Hails Tinubu Over Nigerian Army Expansion, 28,000 Personnel Recruitment

The Association of Proprietors of Private Media Establishments of Nigeria (APPMEN), has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the expansion of the Nigerian Army from eight to 12 divisions and the recruitment of 28,000 additional personnel, describing the move as a major step toward strengthening the country’s security architecture.
In a statement issued by its National Secretariat, APPMEN said the decision reflects the President’s commitment to enhancing national security and equipping the military to respond more effectively to the nation’s evolving security challenges.
The association described the approval as a bold and strategic intervention that would improve the operational capacity of the Nigerian Army in combating terrorism, kidnapping, banditry, armed robbery and other forms of criminality across the country.
According to APPMEN, the establishment of four additional divisions, including the proposed 83 Division in the South-South with headquarters in Benin City, Edo State, will enhance intelligence gathering, improve operational coordination, and ensure faster deployment of troops to areas facing security threats.
The association further noted that the recruitment of 28,000 new personnel would significantly strengthen the Army’s manpower, reinforce border security, support internal security operations, and boost ongoing efforts to restore peace in troubled parts of the country.
APPMEN said the initiative aligns with the objectives of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda by creating a more secure environment capable of attracting investment, stimulating economic growth, and promoting sustainable national development.
While applauding the Federal Government’s commitment to improving security, the association urged Nigerians to support the Armed Forces and other security agencies by providing credible intelligence and cooperating with lawful authorities.
It stressed that addressing insecurity requires collective responsibility, emphasizing that meaningful progress can only be achieved through collaboration between government, security agencies, and citizens.
APPMEN also reaffirmed its commitment to supporting government policies and programmes aimed at strengthening national security, promoting peace, protecting lives and property, and advancing Nigeria’s overall development.
