Adeleke Dances to Victory As PDP Wins 403,371 against APC 375027 ….  INEC Commended for creditable election at Osun State

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has declared Senator Ademola Adeleke, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) winner of the Osun State Governorship  election.

Adeleke beat his closest rival and incumbent Governor of Osun State, His Excellency Adegboyega Oyetola, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), to emerge winner.

Votern turn out turn of 54.48 of 1,952,387 registered voters in Osun State which saw PDP wining 17 LGAs while the APC won in 13 LGAs pushing Adeleke to win with a vote margin of 28,344.

The election which was held across the 30 local government areas of the state amid tight security saw political parties adopting new methods of minimal vote-buying

There were massive turnout of voters as they trooped out in their numbers for accreditation to enable them cast their votes.

Elderly men came very early to vote at Ward 4 Unit 3, Holy Trinity Secondary School, Oke Afo

The Returning Officer of the election, Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, in declaring the result stated,“I declare that Adeleke Ademola Jackson Nurudeen of PDP, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner and he is returned elected.”

The Saturday’s election which was relatively peaceful featured 15 contestants with Oyetola and Adeleke drawing the most attention has Kehinde Atanda of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) came in at a distant third with 10,104 votes, followed by Lasun Yusuf of the Labour Party with 2,729 votes.

90 yeas old man Popo Iragbiji, came for accreditation before 8am at Popo Oloiyi Iragbiji in ward 1 unit 002, Boripe LGA of  in Osun  state.

Other political parties that had insignificant votes are Dr Oyegoke Omigbodun of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, and Dr Akin Ogunbiyi of the Accord Party.

Others are Munirudeen Atanda of the Action Democratic Party, ADP; Lukman Awoyemi of Allied Peoples’ Movement , APM, and Busuyi Ayowole of Peoples Redemption Party, PRP.

Electorates and observers who were interview were unanimous on the tremendous improvement on the quick voting process instituted by INEC during the Osun Election.

Addressing the media after casting his vote at Unit 2, Ward 1 in Boripe Local Government Area, Governor Oyetola told reporters that he is satisfied with the conduct of the poll and commended the security operatives for doing a very good job.

“The whole thing has been very peaceful, I think INEC has performed very well,” said PDP’s Adeleke after he voted.

Recall that more than 21,000 policemen had been deployed for the exercise along with three police helicopters and three gunboats.
