ACOE Urges Nigerian Youths to Shun Violence, Mobilise for 2027 Elections

The Association of Corporate Editors (ACOE) has called on Nigerian youths to shun violence, political thuggery and other social vices while taking an active role in the country’s democratic process ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The Chairman of ACOE, Sola Akingboye, made the call in Abuja in a statement marking the 2026 International Youth Day, urging young Nigerians to remain resilient and committed to contributing positively to national development.
Akingboye said youths remained critical to Nigeria’s social, economic and political advancement, noting that their energy, creativity and capacity could be harnessed to drive meaningful change.
He also appealed to the older generation to create more opportunities for young Nigerians to showcase their talents, acquire relevant skills and make meaningful contributions to the nation’s growth.
According to him, the potential of Nigerian youths can only be fully realised when they receive the necessary support, encouragement and opportunities to thrive.
The ACOE chairman, however, warned youths against allowing themselves to be recruited for violence, political thuggery or other destructive activities, stressing that such actions could jeopardise their future and deny the country the benefits of their talents.
He urged young Nigerians to become more interested in governance and democratic processes, particularly as the country approaches the 2027 general elections.
Akingboye encouraged youths to participate massively in the elections and fulfil their civic responsibilities by actively engaging in the electoral process.
He stressed that meaningful youth participation in governance was essential to ensuring that their interests, aspirations and concerns were adequately represented in national decision-making.
The ACOE chairman also commended the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) and the Ministry of Youth Development for their efforts towards making Nigerian youths more productive, resourceful and prepared to contribute to national development.
He called for continued support for initiatives aimed at empowering young people and creating opportunities for them to realise their potential.
International Youth Day is observed annually to draw attention to issues affecting young people and celebrate their contributions to society.
Akingboye urged Nigerian youths to use the occasion to renew their commitment to peace, responsible citizenship, innovation and national development, assuring them of continued support from stakeholders across the country.
