ACCI Hosts Soyinka as He Commissions Seadogs Secretariat Project at Abuja

The Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI), on Friday hosted Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka for the foundation laying ceremony of the National Secretariat of the National Association of Seadogs in Abuja.

Speaking at the event, ACCI President, Emeka Obegolu, welcomed Soyinka and members of the association, commending their longstanding contributions to humanitarian service, advocacy, and public enlightenment across the country.

Obegolu highlighted the association’s impact through medical outreaches, charity initiatives, environmental sanitation campaigns, and its advocacy for human rights, social justice, and good governance. He noted that such interventions have improved community welfare, promoted civic responsibility, and supported national development.

He also urged the group to deepen collaboration with ACCI, describing the Chamber as the leading voice of the private sector in the Federal Capital Territory with multiple sectoral groups driving economic growth and engagement.

In recognition of his support for the association, Obegolu was presented with a plaque of appreciation, acknowledging his leadership and contributions to the growth of both the Abuja chapter and the national body.

Also speaking, ACCI’s 1st Deputy President, Adesoji Adesugba, praised Obegolu for facilitating the acquisition of the site for the Secretariat. He also presented his book, Ideas Don’t Die, during the ceremony.

Performing the foundation laying, Soyinka described the Secretariat as a project dedicated to the service of humanity. He addressed misconceptions about the association, stressing that its track record of impactful initiatives speaks for itself. He urged members to remain committed to the founding ideals of the organization while continuing to contribute meaningfully to society.
Soyinka further commended ACCI for its role in economic development and private sector representation.

The visit concluded with a guided tour of the ACCI Business Entrepreneurship Skills and Technology (BEST), Centre, led by Obegolu and Adesugba.
