Former Executive Chairman of the Federal Character Commission (FCC), Professor Shuaibu Oba AbdulRaheem, has thrown his weight behind the ongoing efforts of the Commission’s current leadership to eliminate job racketeering, corruption and irregularities in public sector recruitment.
AbdulRaheem gave the commendation during a solidarity visit to the Executive Chairman of the Commission, Hon. Hulayat Motunrayo Omidiran, where he urged her and members of the 5th Commission to remain committed to promoting fairness, equity and accountability in public service.
He praised Omidiran’s leadership for demonstrating the courage and determination required to confront recruitment-related corruption, noting that the protection of the Federal Character Principle remains critical to national unity and equitable representation.
The former FCC chairman urged the current leadership not to relent in its efforts, stressing that public institutions must ensure that employment opportunities are distributed fairly and transparently.
He also called on the Commission to remain focused on its statutory responsibilities and strengthen measures to prevent practices capable of compromising the credibility of recruitment processes.
The visit was warmly received by the Commission’s management and staff, who expressed appreciation for the former chairman’s continued interest in the institution’s activities and development.
Responding, Omidiran thanked AbdulRaheem for the visit and words of encouragement, describing his support as a morale booster for the leadership and workforce of the Commission.
She reiterated the commitment of the 5th Commission to tackling job racketeering, strengthening institutional accountability and ensuring transparency in recruitment exercises across Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).
According to her, the Commission will continue to uphold its statutory mandate by ensuring that the Federal Character Principle is implemented in line with the law.
Omidiran further emphasised that the Commission’s commitment to equitable representation would not undermine merit, due process and integrity in public sector employment.
She noted that the ongoing reforms are designed to guarantee fairness and equal access to opportunities while restoring public confidence in recruitment procedures across government institutions.
The engagement highlighted the importance of institutional continuity, experience-sharing and cooperation between past and present leadership in strengthening the Federal Character Commission’s capacity to deliver on its mandate.
Staff of the Commission described the visit as encouraging, expressing optimism that the renewed commitment to accountability, equitable representation and good governance would further strengthen the institution.
