Defence Minister Urges Nigerians to Unite in Faith, Security as Nigeria Marks 66th Independence

Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd), OFR, has called on Nigerians to remain united in faith, support the nation’s security forces and work collectively towards peace and shared prosperity.
Musa made the call on Sunday at an inter-denominational church service held at the National Christian Centre, Abuja, as part of activities marking Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary.
The service, themed “Anchored on Hope: The Path to Divine Stability and Shared Prosperity,” brought together senior government officials, Christian faithful, members of the diplomatic corps, military chiefs and religious leaders.
The Defence Minister delivered the first scripture reading and used the occasion to emphasise the importance of faith, national cohesion and collective security in building a stable Nigeria.
According to him, security remains fundamental to achieving national unity and sustainable development.
“As we mark 66 years of our nationhood, our hope for a peaceful, secure, and prosperous Nigeria remains unshakeable.
“Security is not merely an operational task; it is the fundamental foundation upon which national unity and shared prosperity are built,” Musa said.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the Armed Forces of Nigeria to protecting the country’s sovereignty and restoring lasting peace across the various regions.
“The Armed Forces of Nigeria remain resolutely committed to safeguarding our sovereignty and restoring lasting peace across all regions.
“I urge all Nigerians to remain steadfast, support our men and women in uniform, and unite in faith as we build a nation anchored on divine stability,” he added.
The service was attended by Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio; Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume; Service Chiefs; members of the diplomatic community; and other dignitaries.
In his remarks, Akpabio offered prayers for Nigeria, stressing the importance of harmony, unity and collective efforts in securing sustainable peace and development.
Akume, who delivered the vote of thanks, also highlighted the importance of democratic stability as Nigeria approaches future civic milestones.
“As we look toward the 2027 elections ahead, let us remember that democracy is sustained by peace and unity,” the SGF said, urging citizens to support the democratic process.
The inter-denominational service ended with the ceremonial cutting of the 66th Independence Anniversary cake by the Defence Minister and other dignitaries.
