NSCDC Boss Reaffirms Commitment to Safe Schools After Rescue of 44 Abducted Oyo Pupils, Teachers

The Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ahmed Abubakar Audi, has reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to the Federal Government’s Safe Schools Initiative following the successful rescue of 44 abducted pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The victims, who were kidnapped by terrorists on May 15, 2026, regained their freedom after a coordinated intelligence-led operation involving multiple security agencies.
In a statement issued on Saturday by the NSCDC National Public Relations Officer, Assistant Commandant of Corps Afolabi Babawale, the Commandant General commended the professionalism, resilience and collaboration of the Joint Security Team that carried out the rescue mission.
According to the statement, the operation was conducted by personnel from the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC) under the Office of the National Security Adviser, Defence Headquarters, the Nigerian Army Special Forces, the Nigerian Navy, the Nigerian Air Force, the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), and the NSCDC.
Prof. Audi described the successful operation as a testament to the effectiveness of inter-agency collaboration, intelligence sharing and the Federal Government’s determination to combat terrorism, secure schools and safeguard the lives and property of Nigerians.
He praised the courage, professionalism and sacrifices of all security personnel involved in the operation, stressing that the success underscored the importance of sustained cooperation among security agencies.
The NSCDC boss also reaffirmed the Corps’ resolve to strengthen the protection of schools and other Critical National Assets and Infrastructure through proactive intelligence gathering, strategic deployment of personnel, community engagement and continued collaboration with sister security agencies.
He called on Nigerians to support security agencies by providing timely and credible information that could lead to the arrest of criminal elements, noting that national security remains a shared responsibility.
“Let me reaffirm the unwavering commitment of the NSCDC High Command to the steadfast discharge of the Corps’ statutory mandate,” Audi said.
He added that the Corps would continue to protect Critical National Assets and Infrastructure, mitigate disasters, rescue victims during emergencies, supervise Private Guard Companies and sustain strong synergy with other security agencies to ensure a safer and more peaceful Nigeria.
