BANGLADESH  TOP TROOPS CONTRIBUTOR TO UN PEACEKEEPING MISSIONS

Bangladesh is now the largest contributor of troops to UN peacekeeping missions, according to Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR).

In a media statement on Saturday, ISPR said that a total of 6,836 Bangladeshi personnel were now stationed in eight out of 13 missions world wide. Among them were armed forces, police, and UN military experts on missions and staff officers.

As of Tuesday, 5,255 members of the Bangladesh Army, 345 of Bangladesh Navy, 582 of Bangladesh Air Force, and 654 members of Bangladesh Police, were currently deployed in different missions, and of them, 246 are female officials.

Ethiopia is in second position with 6,662 members, followed by Rwanda with 6,322 members.

Bangladeshi peacekeepers are currently deployed in eight out of 13 peacekeeping missions in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Sudan, South Sudan, Western Sahara, Mali, Central African Republic, Yemen and Lebanon.

Bangladesh was also the largest contributor to peacekeeping missions in 2011, 2014 and 2015, the second-largest in 2012, 2012, 2013, 2017, and 2018, the third-largest in 2019, and the fourth largest in 2016.
