Presidential Power Adviser, NISO Management Align on Grid Stability and Sector Reforms

The Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) and the Presidency have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s electricity network following a high-level engagement at the organisation’s headquarters in Abuja.
The meeting, held on Friday, May 29, 2026, saw the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of NISO, Engr. Abdu Bello Mohammed, host the Special Adviser to the President on Power, Mr. Lanre Babalola, and his delegation for discussions on critical issues affecting the power sector.
The engagement focused on enhancing the reliability and efficiency of the national grid, advancing ongoing electricity sector reforms, and reinforcing government support for NISO’s mandate as a key institution in the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI).
During the visit, Mr. Babalola stressed the need for effective resource management, operational discipline, and sustained measures to improve grid performance while minimizing system disruptions. He noted that NISO remains central to efforts aimed at building a more resilient and sustainable power sector capable of meeting the nation’s growing energy demands.
Responding, Engr. Mohammed reiterated NISO’s commitment to operational excellence and continuous improvements in grid management. He assured the Presidential Adviser of the organisation’s readiness to collaborate with relevant stakeholders in driving reforms and ensuring a more stable and dependable electricity supply across the country.
The visit underscored the Federal Government’s resolve to support initiatives that enhance power system stability and strengthen the overall performance of Nigeria’s electricity industry.
