Nigeria Condoles DR Congo Over Deadly Ebola Outbreak

The Federal Government of Nigeria has expressed deep sorrow and solidarity with the Government and people of the Democratic Republic of the Congo following the devastating Ebola outbreak that has claimed more than 130 lives and infected over 500 people.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja on Friday, Nigeria described the outbreak as a tragic public health emergency that has brought immense pain to affected families and communities across the Central African nation.

The government conveyed its heartfelt condolences to bereaved families and commended the efforts of health authorities, frontline medical workers, humanitarian personnel, and international partners working tirelessly to contain the spread of the disease and provide treatment for victims.

Nigeria reaffirmed its commitment to regional and international collaboration in combating infectious diseases, stressing the need for stronger African public health systems and coordinated emergency response mechanisms.

According to the Ministry, the recurring outbreaks of Ebola across the continent highlight the urgent necessity for sustained investment in healthcare infrastructure, disease surveillance, medical research, and preparedness against future epidemics.

The Federal Government also offered prayers for the peaceful repose of those who lost their lives, speedy recovery for infected persons, and strength for families affected by the outbreak.
