The Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority (OYRTMA) has hosted 45 students from Oke-Ogun Polytechnic, Saki, for a hands-on training session aimed at deepening their understanding of traffic management and road safety operations.
The students, drawn from the Department of Transportation Management, visited the Authority’s headquarters at the Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan, on Thursday as part of an academic study tour designed to bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world practice.
Led by their Head of Department, Dr. Akanmu, alongside Mr. Onifade, the students received practical insights into traffic control systems, enforcement strategies, and road safety administration in Oyo State.
Addressing the visitors, the Executive Chairman of OYRTMA, Major Adesagba Adekoya (Rtd.), delivered a comprehensive presentation on the evolution of traffic management efforts in the state. He highlighted milestones that led to the establishment of the Authority and urged the students to uphold professionalism and ethical standards in their future careers.
Adekoya also reaffirmed the agency’s readiness to support industrial training programmes for students formally deployed through the appropriate government channels, noting that such collaborations are vital to building a skilled transport workforce. He commended the Oyo State Government for its continued support in strengthening OYRTMA’s operations.
Speaking on behalf of the students, Dr. Akanmu described the visit as “worthwhile and unforgettable,” expressing appreciation to the Authority’s leadership for the opportunity to gain practical exposure.
In his closing remarks, the General Manager of OYRTMA, Commander Adeoye Ayoade, praised the initiative by the institution, noting that the experience would significantly enhance the students’ academic and professional development. He also described Dr. Akanmu as a familiar figure within the Authority, assuring him of a warm reception in future engagements.
The visit featured facility tours and detailed presentations by top officials, including directors overseeing administration, finance, operations, rescue and incident management, logistics, and volunteer coordination. The sessions focused on enforcement mechanisms, best practices in traffic management, and strategies for maintaining road safety.
The engagement provided the students with valuable exposure to real-life traffic management operations, reinforcing the critical role of effective road safety systems in protecting lives and property.
The statement was signed by Dotun Oyelade, Honourable Commissioner for Information, Oyo State, on April 18, 2026.
