KEFFI–ABUJA HIGHWAY TRAGEDY: CORPS MARSHAL MOURNS SEVEN VICTIMS, ORDERS THOROUGH INVESTIGATION

The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed, has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic crash that occurred on Thursday along the Keffi–Abuja Highway at Angwan Jarmi, claiming the lives of seven persons.

Olusegun Ogungbemide, the Corps Marshal extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and prayed for the peaceful repose of their souls. He described the incident as painful and devastating, emphasizing that no loss of life on the nation’s highways is acceptable.
Preliminary Findings
Initial reports indicate that the crash involved a lone vehicle suspected to have been driven at excessive speed, resulting in loss of control and a collision after veering into the opposite lane. FRSC rescue teams were promptly deployed following distress calls.
Upon arrival at the scene, however, personnel encountered heightened tension among some members of the public, including commercial motorcycle operators. The situation escalated into a mob attack on the FRSC Keffi Unit Command.
Order for Comprehensive Probe
While preliminary findings point to speeding and loss of control as likely causes, the Corps Marshal has directed a comprehensive and transparent investigation into all circumstances surrounding the crash, including allegations of possible patrol-related factors.
He stressed that the Corps will neither rush to apportion blame nor dismiss legitimate public concerns. Any personnel found to have acted outside established operational standards will be held accountable in accordance with FRSC regulations.
Commendation for Security Agencies
The Corps Marshal commended the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigerian Army for their swift intervention, which helped restore calm and prevent further breakdown of law and order. Their professionalism and timely response were instrumental in stabilizing the situation and safeguarding lives and property.
