Weather Outlook by NiMet’s Central Forecast Office from 18 – 20/08/2025

Day 1: Monday 18th August, 2025

Northern Region:
There are prospects of moderate rains over parts of Yobe, Borno, Gombe and Adamawa states during the
morning hours. During the afternoon to evening hours, thunderstorms with moderate rains are expected
over parts of Zamfara, Jigawa, Kano, Katsina, Sokoto, Kebbi, Yobe, Borno, Adamawa, Kaduna, Bauchi,
Gombe and Taraba states. There is high possibility of flood occurring in parts of Maiduguri, Dutse, Katsina,
Gombe and Bauchi state during the forecast period.

Central Region:
There are prospects of light rains over parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Nasarawa and Niger state
during the morning period. In the afternoon/evening hours, light intermittent rains are anticipated in
parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Nasarawa, Niger, Plateau, Benue, Kwara and Kogi states.

Southern Region:
Cloudy skies are expected over the region with chances of light rains over parts of Cross River and Akwa
Ibom state during the morning period. Moderate rains are expected over parts of Enugu, Anambra, Edo,
Abia, Imo, Ebonyi, Delta, Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom and Cross River states during the afternoon/evening
hours. There is high possibility of flood occurring over parts of Ebonyi state during the forecast period.

 

Day 2: Tuesday 19th August, 2025

Northern Region:
Thunderstorms with moderate rains are anticipated over parts of Sokoto, Zamfara, Kebbi and Kaduna
states during the forecast period.

Central Region:
There are prospects of Light rains in parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Nasarawa and Plateau states
during the morning period. In the afternoon/evening hours, light intermittent rains are anticipated in
parts of Niger, Plateau, Kwara, Nasarawa, Kogi, the Federal Capital Territory and Benue states.

Southern Region:
Cloudy skies are expected over the region during the morning hours. Later during the afternoon/evening
period, light rains are expected in parts of Ogun, Osun, Ekiti, Ebonyi, Imo, Abia, Anambra, Edo, Delta,
Rivers, Cross River, Bayelsa and Akwa Ibom states.

Day 3: Wednesday 20th August, 2025

Northern Region:
Cloudy skies with spells of sunshine are anticipated over this region during the forecast period.

Central Region:
Cloudy skies are expected over the region during the morning period with chances of light rains over parts
of Nasarawa, Benue and the Federal Capital Territory. In the afternoon/evening hours, light rains are
anticipated in parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Niger, Nasarawa and Plateau states.

Southern Region:
Cloudy skies are expected over the region during the morning period with chances of light rains over parts
of Cross River and Akwa Ibom. Later during the afternoon/evening period, light rains are expected in parts
of Ogun, Oyo, Akwa Ibom, Cross River and Lagos states.

Advisory
i. Driving under heavy rain should be avoided.

ii. The states with possibility of Flash Flood should activate emergency response plans, especially the
places highlighted in red.
iii. To avoid leaching of nutrients, farmers should refrain from applying fertilizer and pesticides right before
the rains.
iv. Ensure warm clothing for the vulnerable persons due to low night-time temperatures.
v. Ensure that loose objects are fastened to avoid collision.
vi. Disconnect electrical appliances from electrical sockets.
v. Stay away from tall trees to avoid impact from falling branches and broken trees.
vi. Airline operators are advised to get airport-specific weather reports (flight documentation) from NiMet
for effective planning in their operations.
