NAF Repells Terrorist Attack in Rann, Neutralizes Insurgents

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF), has successfully repelled a terrorist assault on troops stationed in Rann, Borno State, in the early hours of August 8, 2025.
According to Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, Director of Public Relations and Information at NAF, the operation was conducted under Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), utilizing coordinated Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR), and Air Interdiction (AI) missions.
“The NAF acted on credible intelligence indicating an imminent attack on military positions in Rann.
“NAF aircraft tracked clusters of fleeing insurgents and engaged them with precision munitions, neutralizing several terrorists.
“The swift and decisive action restored calm to the area, underscoring the NAF’s commitment to providing close air support and safeguarding troops”, Ejodame said.
Borno State is a region repeatedly faced with violence linked to extremist groups, including Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP).
The Federal Government of Nigeria established Operation Hadin Kai as a major counterinsurgency mission targeting terrorist groups in the Lake Chad basin, was launched in 2021 as a joint task force involving land and air resources.
Military Analysts has stressex the strategic importance of preventing insurgents from regrouping in remote areas, a tactic often used to prolong instability.
Recall that troops have repelled similar assaults in Damboa LGA of Borno, killing 16 ISWAP fighters during a gun duel backed by air strikes.
In addition, during joint operations Troops killed 24 Boko Haram and ISWAP insurgents during operations across Borno and Adamawa states in July.
