INEC Hosts ECONEC Post-Election Mission to Nigeria

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has received a high-level delegation from the ECOWAS Network of Electoral Commissions (ECONEC) on a post-election follow-up and needs assessment mission to Nigeria. The meeting aimed to review Nigeria’s implementation of recommendations made by the ECOWAS Election Observation Mission (EOM), following the 2023 General Election.
The delegation, led by Mrs. Davidetta Browne-Lansanah, Chairperson of Liberia’s National Elections Commission, included representatives from Ghana’s Electoral Commission, ECOWAS, and international organizations.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, emphasized the importance of the mission and INEC’s commitment to electoral reform. He noted that INEC has taken administrative steps on the 13 recommendations addressed to it.
He said INEC has commenced the Training of Trainers (ToT) at the Electoral Institute (TEI) in Abuja to ensure a seamless resumption of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise. The training aims to equip Registration Officers with technical and legal knowledge required for the voter registration exercise.
Key Features of the CVR include; Digitalized process to enable eligible voters to begin processing registration online but will complete it at a designated center; and Improved access to inclusion by easing voter enrollment and decongesting registration centers
