Prominent Diplomatic Journalist in Bangladesh (Lotus), Appointed As Editor of Daily Sun

Prominent Diplomatic journalist Md. Rezaul Karim (Lotus), has been appointed as the Editor of a foremost Bangladesh Newspaper, Daily Sun.

He replaced Enamul Hoque Chowdhury, who was made Editor-in-Chief.

On January 1, 2020, Rezaul Karim Lotus joined the Daily Sun as City and Diplomatic Editor. Later in October 2021 he was promoted to the position of Executive Editor of the country’s leading English daily.

Earlier, he served as Chief Reporter, Diplomatic and Special Correspondent of The Daily Star with vast experience in diplomatic and other fields of journalism.

Popularly known as Lotus, he is the current President of Diplomatic Correspondents Association Bangladesh (DCAB). He was also elected President of DCAB in 2012, 2017, 2018 and 2022

Lotus has brought with him a wealth of reporting experience during his three decades’ career at The Daily Star and United News of Bangladesh (UNB) where he held different positions.

He began his career in journalism as Dhaka University Correspondent at the UNB in March, 1989 when he was sophomore at the Dhaka University.

In his long career, Lotus participated in various high-level professional training, conference, leadership and study programmes, UN and other international summits in different countries, including the Australia, USA, the UK, EU, India, China, Japan, Korea.

He participated in the Australian Professional Opportunity (APO) programme managed by Australia Awards, International Leadership Visitor Programme (ILVP) in the USA, European Union Leadership Programme (EULP in Brussels, “Next Generation Leaders Visit to South Korea” of Korea Foundation, Study on Decentralization and Local Government in Switzerland and Sweden, Diplomatic Correspondents Conference in India, media conference on Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and Maritime Silk Road project in China.

Besides, he also visited the USA at the invitation of US Department of State to participate in reporting tour on “Amplifying the Indo-Pacific Strategy, and Rotary Foundation programme.”

He interviewed a number of heads of states and governments and high officials from different countries.
