COSROPIN Seeks Media Partnership, Conceives Hall of Fame for Senior Citizens

The President Coalition of Societies for the Rights of Older Persons in Nigeria (COSROPIN) Senator Darlington Eze Ajoku, says the group is ready to partner with media houses to advance the cause of older persons. Senator Ajoku made this known during a one day stakeholders forum organized by the coalition in Abuja.

He urged Media houses in Nigeria to partner with the coalition in identifying and honouring Corporate Institutions and Senior Citizens that are 60+.

The Stake holders forum had guests from government, NGOs, CSOs, and media houses the body seeks partnership with in attendance.

According to Senator Ajoku, COSROPIN aims at encouraging institutions to strive for longevity and sustainability, help create classification standard, a reference and national hall of fame of corporate senior citizens who are 60+ and above, help create world class brands, symbol, logo, status and positive classification for corporate citizens to aspire to as National heritage.

It also aims at

allowing Nigeria Corporate Senior Citizens to tell their stories for study and academic link analysis in our higher Institutions and museums. Provide huge research resources in the process. Provide for Nigerians and the world a historical, Institutional memory and documentation.

Senator Ajoku recalled that it was COSROPIN advocacy activities in 2020 that gave birth to government creation of the National Senior Citizens Center(NSCC), to which COSROPIN is a Board of Trustees member. Adding that “Our bill on the Rights and Privileges of Older Persons has just been passed by both Chambers of the National Assembly awaiting the President’s sign off”.

Dr Ike Willie -Nwobu, the President of International Federation on Ageing in Nigeria (IFAN) in his response, declared that ” companies are life wire of countries, representing their blood line and watering protocols in diverse ways including; employment generation, knowledge/ skills transfer, poverty reduction. Innovation/ research, investment. Diplomacy/ foreign relations. Peace building/ community development and security. Public relations and voice of the country.

He described the Senior Citizens Awards as; National conversations and engagement. Standardization protocol. Energized national data response and mining which he said would generate a study framework for our business schools, economic / financial classes across our higher institutions.

He commended Senator Ajoku for his humility and noted that he has taught everyone that ” politics is not a do or die affairs, that you don’t need to be in politics to be relevant and contribute to National development and productivity. God to bless you.” He blessed the day God made their paths cross.

The high point of the event was the premiere of a movie in the series of other Advocacy movies on the need for Care for Older Persons and a wake up call for children to look after their parents and for daughter inlaws to take care of their mother inlaws as they will get there some day.

COSROPIN is a coalition of over 100 associations made up of non – governmental organizations, NGOs Civil Societies Organizations CSOs, Pension Unions, NUP, Retirement groups of the Army, Air force, Navy, Police, Academia/Professionals in Ageing and all other groups working on issues /activities of Older Persons/ Senior Citizens.
